Minnesota Timberwolves Repeated A Game 7 Moment Last Night
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves stunned the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, 98-90. They pulled off the largest comeback in game 7 history. This will be the second time that the Minnesota Timberwolves will play in the Western Conference Finals. Yet, exactly 20 years ago, on May 19th, 2004, the Timberwolves had their first-ever franchise game 7 against the Sacramento Kings.

What Happened To The Minnesota Timberwolves 20 Years Ago?

On May 19th, 2004, Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves hosted the Sacramento Kings. After years of short playoff runs and losing seasons, Minnesota sought to play in the Western Conference Finals. The only team that was in their way was the Sacramento Kings, who were a familiar presence in the playoffs.

The score of that game was somewhat similar to last night’s game 20 years later. They beat the Kings 80-83. The season’s MVP, Kevin Garnett, had 32 points and 21 rebounds against the Sacramento bigs. He was supported by Sam Cassell, who scored 23 points while going 10-11 from the free-throw line. They would go on to lose to the Lakers in 6 games.

What Did The Minnesota Timberwolves Do Last Night In Game 7?

The Timberwolves held the Nuggets down to 90 points. The Nuggets have lost their last 12 games when they score less than 100 points. Minnesota’s power forward Karl Anthony Towns contributed 23 points and 12 rebounds in their win. Jaden McDaniels continues to be the T-Wolves’ X-Factor, as he had 23 points off 7-10 shooting while recording two steals and one block.

Anthony Edwards went 6-24 from the field last night, but he did more than just score. He grabbed eight rebounds, recorded seven assists, and made 2 vital steals in the game. Hopefully, they can get past the Dallas Mavericks to get to their first NBA Finals appearance in franchise history.
